When beginning a weight loss program, you need to determine with your physician what a healthy weight is for your height. Body Mass Index (BMI), a measurement calculated from a person’s weight and height, is a good indicator of body fat. BMI is used as a screening tool to identify possible weight problems and identify risk for people with conditions like heart disease and diabetes.

BMI can be calculated by multiplying your weight (in pounds) by 705, then dividing by your height (in inches) twice.
